FACE/NECK LIFT AND
EYELID SURGERY
PRIOR
TO
SURGERY YOU
WILL
NEED TO OBTAIN:
1.
Antibacterial soap
(“Dial”).
2.
Hydrogen
peroxide.
3.
Q‑tips.
4.
Have all prescriptions filled.
5.
Coca-Cola
6.
Make transportation arrangements because you will not
be able to drive yourself home.
10-14 DAYS BEFORE
SURGERY:
1.
We recommend that you be
on a well balanced diet and take a multi‑vitamin.
2. Do not take any
aspirin (Refer to the list in your
package). Do not take any
extra Vitamin E.
3.
Taking
Tylenol
is okay.
THE EVENING BEFORE
SURGERY:
1.
Shower and wash your face, neck, and shampoo your hair
with Antibacterial Cleanser.
2.
Take one antibiotic
tablet at 5:00 p.m. the evening before surgery and
another at bedtime.
3.Take 1 Valium at Bedtime.
4.
Do not drink alcoholic
beverages.
5. Do not eat or
drink anything after mid‑night.
THE MORNING OF
SURGERY:
DO NOT TAKE AN
ANTIBIOTIC TABLET IN AM
1.
Shower and wash your
face, neck, and shampoo your hair with the
antibacterial Cleanser. Dry your hair before coming to
the office.
Men:
Please shave.
Ladies:
Please do not wear any
make-up.
2.
Take one Valium one hour
before surgery.
3.
Wear loose clothing with
no pullover tops, please. Low slip on shoes are
recommended.
4.
Please leave all
valuables at home.
AFTER SURGERY:
1.
You will remain in the
office recovery room.
2.
Elevate head and
shoulders on two pillows do nor lie
flat. You are
encouraged to sleep in this position for a few days.
3.
Don't turn your head from
side to side or up and down. Don't bend over or strain.
This will increase pressure to the surgical site and
cause tension on sutured areas. Avoid this as much as
possible for at least 2 weeks.
4.
When you get home, begin
applying iced compresses to your eyes every hour for 1
0 to 1 5 minutes the day and evening of your surgery.
We recommend you continue applying the ice cold
compresses periodically after the surgery day for up to
72 hours to help reduce swelling and for comfort. You
may use a
small washcloth that has
been soaked in iced water and wrung out.
5.After
surgery, take 1 antibiotic tablet 4 times a day until
they are all gone.
6.
Take one pain pill as
needed.
7.
Upon arriving home
following surgery, eat lightly. Do not drink alcohol.
8.
If you are experiencing nausea or
vomiting the
evening of surgery, drink Coca-Cola, beginning with 1 teaspoon at a
time., lf necessary, try Dramamine
or another motion
sickness medicine.

You may wish to bring a
scarf or hat to wear home the day your dressings are
removed.
ADDITIONAL
POSTOPERATIVE INFORMATION:
I.
Q‑tips
moistened with
Hydrogen
peroxide should be used to cleanse eyelid
incisions, gently keeping them free of crust formation.
2.
When instructed, shampoo
your hair (using your favorite shampoo or baby shampoo)
and then continue with a daily shampoo for about a week
This will help keep the incisions as clean as possible
and aid in healing.
3.
You should expect
swelling (often times quite a bit) and discoloration
about your eyes, face and neck. This will begin to
subside in a few days and will be virtually gone in 1 0
days to 2 weeks.
4.
Tearing often occurs
after eye surgery. You may use commercial eyewash drops
to ease this. Also, more frequent blinking is necessary
as the eye is drier, due to swelling.
5.
As healing progresses it
is normal to feel tingling, tightness and some
stiffness.
6.
You may feel little bumps
here and there. These are simple bruises and will
disappear in a few weeks.
7.
Numbness is usual and will last up to three months in
some areas.
8.
You may have a shampoo
and set in a beauty shop 2 or 3 weeks post-operatively.
Do not use a hot dryer. Check the temperature with your
hands.
9.
Your hair may be colored
5 to 6 weeks postoperatively.
10.
Conditioners may be used
in 2 to 3 weeks, although hot pack conditioners should
not be used for 5 to 6 weeks postoperatively.
11.
Do Not
Use Heating Pad on Face or Neck.
